   Why?  Is there some actual problem which you are trying to
solve?

   On a gigabit switch, one thing I'd look into would be a
gigabit Ethernet card for the VMS box.  (If I had an
available PCI slot, which might be asking too much on a
DS10L.)

   Why would you expect a better answer from people who know
nothing about your NFS usage patterns in a news group than
from running an apparently simple experiment?
