Instead of pundits talking about companies like MS disappearing, I think
it would be more accurate to ask how much power those companies will have
in the future compared to today. When you think of it like that, the
questions about Microsoft are valid, because it's already happening.

Compare Microsoft's power in the marketplace in the late 1990s with it's
position today. It's become just one of several players in many of the
areas it competes in.

For another example, compare IBM's power in it's chosen markets prior
to a certain multi-billion dollar writeoff with it's position afterwards.
IBM still exists, and will continue to exist in the future, but it does
not have the power it once had.
