SGI did have hardware and software to increase 'DEC affinity' and
of which they were very proud (i.e. they boasted about it in their
marketing material), once upon a time.

But, I think you're right, I don't think SGI ever actually had DSSI
and I was most likely confusing myself with FDDI.

Interesting, who ever developed and used/took advantage of it, or
was it more of a community 'hack'?  If not the latter, it must've
predated S/PDIF TOSLINK/"lightpipe" by quite a bit then.
