And for those who are stuck behind firewalls which have port 119 
blocked, eternal-september.org has alternative ports:

In the case of MT-NewsWatcher which runs on OS X, checking the "secure 
connection" box is sufficient to set the port to 563 (NTTPS), (which 
came in handy last week when the Eternal September service providing 
access to port 119 suffered down time).  I imagine other news readers 
offer similar functionality.
