To be honest I never used the Motif or CDE File Manager programs for 
anything apart from showing other folks that the functionality was 
there, but I started with VMS V2.1 before such things existed and was 
quite happy with the command line.

Likewise with a VMS background I could navigate Ultrix/Tru64 without any 
problems.  Yes it's a shame it didn't evolve, but if my colleagues and I 
could manage perfectly well without, there was probably little demand.
