HP has no intentions of making IA64 work. They gave up on it in mid
2000s. They are merely winding things down in a slow and deliberate way.
IA64 never gave HP any edge over competition. Power does make it in the
top 500 supercomputers. So IBM sees some value is pushing Power and
Linux for those who need lots of compute power.
Since EPIC was meant to be simpler since it moved a lot of logic to the
compiler, it is somewhat puzzling that Intel couldn't make the thing
work in the 1990s when it might have been relevant. By the time Merced
came out, it was not relevant.
