I can't speak about HCL, but I had a similar experience handing over to Infosys, six years ago. It appeared that they did not have a single person in their enormous work force who had any knowledge of OpenVMS, so they had to hire someone. Of course, during the contract negotiation, they assured us that they could do it. In fact, for them it was only a very little piece in a large Unix/Windows contract. Since nobody participating in the negotiations knew anything about OpenVMS, it was easy to reach an agreement.

The actual handover was "easy": the person they hired did not know what SYS$LOGIN is! On the bright side: he had no noticeable knowledge of Unix or Windows either!
