"Fair use" means things like you have the right to quote from a book
without permission when writing a review of it. It also means you can
parody a movie, for instance. It is not some loophole related to your
personal definition of the word "fair".

Right. See the link above. It also has links within it, one which
discusses trademarks. Yes, trademarks CAN expire if not defended, but
not copyrights.
