I think it was both, in a way. It was owned by DEC back when Bob worked 
for DEC. It was never a product in the sense that it was sold. I seem to 
remember that there was an article in a DEC Technical Journal about it, 
though.
But I think it is correct to characterize it as a Bob hobby project all 
along.
