Well, it's Exxon in the USA and Esso everywhere else. 

About those Esso stickers: They were small, maybe 1 or 1 1/2
inches wide at the most. And I think they were used only at a few stations here and there. They were rather inconspicuous, and there was plenty of Exxon signage all about the station, including the same pumps. I haven't seen them in a while. But here you can see a picture of Exxon gas alongside Esso Diesel, another method being employed by Exxon Mobil to not lose the Esso trademark.
