I saw the NYC sybway system for the first time in 20 years several years
ago (ob on-topic: for VMS-related work in the city). I was impressed how
the 100% graffiti-covered cars I remember from back then were gone.  The
stations still aren't the cleanest places, the cement on the floors is all
a brownish-black from millions of feet grinding in dirt over decades and
there is often the smell of stale urine, but much better.
