[Info-vax] OT: What happened to the Malborough-Shrewsbury area ?

The Malborough-Shrewsbury area used to be a hotbed for the computer
industry with a lot o R&D done there, Digital, and a whole BUNCH of
other companies.

They seem to be all gone now. And even Intel is abandonning the old DEC
FAB at Hudson.


Has this be a big economic blow to the area ? Or was the area diverse
enough to widthstand the gradual disapearance of the computer industry ?
What has sustained the area since then ?
