You seems to think that this project has anything to do
with the latest HP actions (or earlier actions from DEC/CPQ).
It has not. The others at the meeting knew nothing at all
about roadmaps, service plans and so on. They know nothing
about VMS, Digital, CPQ, HP or so.
Since I begun working with this customer 8 years ago, there have
been a constact 3-5 year lifetime for this system rooling forward.
This has everything to do with the fact that this system is old,
it is the only one on VMS at this customer and it is not running
on their "prefered plattform".
The final nail in the coffin was a few months ago when it was
clear to the customer that HCL Technologies (who since 15-Jan
has the primary support for this system) had a hard time to
find OpenVMS personel amongst their 100'000 employees.
I showed the current support plan but that was not any major
factor behind this project and as I said, they hadn't seen
the plan before the decision anyway.
*This* system would have gone away no matter how bright
the future of VMS might have been. That is unrelated.
Jan-Erik.
