In an odd way, oceanography brought me to VMS. My first real job was as a research engineer for an international oceanographic project we used PDP-11s running various versions of RSX and its variants (RSX-11D/M/S and IAS) as well as RT-11 and DOS-11.
I eventually joined Digital Equipment Corporation in the May after VMS and the VAX were announced as a software specialist. Spent time there and then went off into the "wild world" and have been using, programming and consulting on VMS ever since. Some evangelizing as well!
Bill.
