The bigger question is whether a VMS shop that has already converted to
IA64 would want the trouble of converting back to Alpha in order to get
it running beyond IA64. Would be much easier if there were an IA64
emulator which would not require any porting and licence changes.

This is where HP would be of help by offering free H kits and licence
changes (if any) to help customers move back to Alpha. Other vendors
such as Oracle should also provide similar help.
