For VMS shops unable to migrate to new platforms, the "still do it"
becomes the goal. And by the time shops need to replace Tukwila hardware
due to age or maintenance costs, I am pretty sure the 8086 will provided
emulated performance that matches or beats Tukwila.
With VMS dead, it is a fair bet that growth in computing requirements
will happen on other platforms (aka: new applications go to Linux). This
frees up some capacity on the remaining VMS system, which reduces the
need for constantly increased perforformance for the new legacy apps
still on VMS.
