Poor form to reply to my own post, but I thought of a great example ..

Windows 2000 -> Windows XP -> Windows Vista -> Windows 7 -> Windows 8

Now I run XP on a few systems, because lots of new software won't run on 
2000, but, ??vista??, and beyond ??
