That fixed it.
I should have ran a ANAL/DISK at every step, before and after I replaced the problem disk. I need to remember this.
Also, I should have dismounted the problem disk before I shutdown the system to replace it. That caused some messages at startup, and I just assumed the shadow set had been properly rebuilt.
I am a software guy who stumbles through maintaining hardware.
