I have heard commercial for IPL, but never thought about that one.

It might be that they say it in the form of a question (with a
rising tone), and IBMs IPL has either none or a falling tone.

I do sometimes notice license plates where the letter combinations
are instruction mnemonics from assembles that I have known, and
might also notice IPL.
