the cheap USB devices have been known to die.  Then again, maybe I seek 
out the cheapest, and get what I pay for ....

The only way I'd use such is if I had several copies.  My own preference 
for on-site backups is very large disk drives.  Connected to non-VMS if 
need be.  Save sets can be copied to other systems rather easily.


Got neither tapes nor USB stuff in use here for backup.  But then, I'm 
just a part time developer, and don't have gobs of data to worry about.
