IIRC, the host name is set in three places, the settings are split
across domain and interfaces in the config tool, and across the DNS
settings or (less desirably) the local hosts settings.

Also see my various comments about the sad state of the VMS system
management UI, about how many diffent places and tools are involved,
and how unnecessarily complex the host name settings are.

Things get worse with the configuration files in my experience, and not
better — files are certainly simpler to look at, but the use of files
makes the system manager much more responsible for syntax (which gets
checked "later") and data coordination; with dealing with the bugs and
typos and with the settings that inevitably span multiple configuration
files. For a corollary, see the logical name morass barely hidden
underneath the C RTL.
