Right behind? I'm familiar with "left behind", as in "no child left
behind". :-)
True story: Now that plagiarism is easily detected via software,
students have moved to replacing words and phrases in the copied text
via synonyms, using a thesaurus. The process is called rogeting, after
Roget's Thesaurus, one of the more popular ones. The problem is, some
synonyms work only in some contexts. This is especially true of
idiomatic phrases. A real-life so-bad-it's-good example: A professor
was quite surprised to find a phrase he had never seen before and at
first couldn't make heads or tails (pun, as always, intended) of. It
turned out it was the rogeted version of the familiar phrase "left
behind". What did the student write? Scroll down to read the answer.
Make sure your mouth, bladder, and intestines are empty first.
Drum roll, please...
..."sinister buttocks".
