If they are open to it, part time may be the least expensive way.  I have provided this type of parttime support for a long time.  Since these systems are extremely reliable, there is little need for 40HR/week coverage as long as there is phone support.  I have also provided maintenance remotely by having a copy of the code on local hardware.  This is essentially like having a separate development system, just a little more removed.

Keep the options open.
