I though am at "I could have retired" + 1.  When my wife retired I said, 
I'm going to retire.  She said nope, need the next year all to myself. 
After a year I said Ok, now I'll retire.  She said nope, need the next 
year all to myself.  I have a feeling I'm going to die on the job.
