Postfix on a unix box.

You point your VMS server to a postfix gateway server.

The VMS SMTP software is way too old to know about 587 or SMTH AUTH.

You may wishj to contact the Multinet folks (Process Software ?), as
their TCPIP stack on VMS is more complete and their SMTP software might
possibly support it.
