That makes a full circle. Larry and I sat at the same table for lunch at the first Oracle users conference. (1985?). Held at the St. Francis hotel in San Francisco. A rather small affair. I happened to be working for Oracle's largest customer at the time, SOHIO petroleum ( owned by BP). Shortly after this SOHIO shut down the San Francisco office. We hadn't found any oil despite spending more than $1b looking and I was soon working for that other database company (Ingres). In 1988 Larry famously wrote us off as "moribund" and I guess he was right. Now Larry's retired, and I'm retired, what a trip it's been and still is.
