I did poke my head out and I saw my shadow... six more weeks of kernel mode.

Earlier in this thread (maybe it was in another, I don't recall), I posted a
URL to the V4.4 (?) I&DS manual.  I'd suggest you read the chapter on system
service dispatching.  I may help to answer a great number of your questions.
