JOB DESCRIPTION:

HP has a need for a multi talented System Engineer to support one of our 
Federal Clients with operation and maintenance services for their 
mission critical system. The position requires skill in all aspects of 
Open VMS system administration, security, networking, and user 
administration; knowledge and experience with Windows server and RedHat 
Linux is desirable.

  Candidate must to provide support for the OpenVMS server environment 
(and VMS clustering) running on the HP c7000 Integrity blade 
architecture. This service includes providing support of the OpenVMS 
Operating System configuration, file systems, log files, problem 
determination, administration tools, utilities, security, performance 
and hardware. Systems management tools are installed to allow support to 
be provided locally or from a remote location.

  Candidate must possess the ability to work in a diverse environment 
with strong interpersonal skills and be a team player. Good 
organizational skills to balance and prioritize work and able to 
multitask. Ability to provide off hours support required.

  QUALIFICATIONS:
Provide installation and maintenance of the OpenVMS server operating 
system, system management software.
  Perform upgrades of OpenVMS operating system and OEM/ISV products to 
maintain a supported environment.
  Recommend operating system updates and configuration modification.
Configuration and management of C7000 blade chassis and Virtual Connect 
administration of network and storage components.

  Manage resolution of software problems with supported OEM/ISV products.
  Apply operating system patch set updates as required.
  Establish and maintain system configurations for sending traps (SNMP or 
SMTP) to monitor platform when server events occur.
  Develop and maintain operational support procedures for the servers.
  Maintain constant readiness to support disaster recovery processing and 
participate in annual DR exercise.
  Maintain and document in-scope server configuration information.
  Although the customer has Critical Care hardware support, the candidate 
must assist with problem resolution and recovery of system and end-user 
applications.
Liaison with third parties for contracted fault repair and interaction 
with other support groups for spares arranging and technical information 
interchange and escalation.

  REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

BA / BS or equivalent industry experience.
  AT LEAST 5 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN DCL PROGRAMMING AND OPENVMS 
ADMINISTRATION
At least 5 years experience in problem determination and perform 
capacity planning and performance tuning for OpenVMS.
  At least 5 years experience in configuration of OpenVMS Networking: 
TCP/IP and/or Multinet, DECnet, LAT, SNMP, Telnet, SSH, FTP, SMTP and 
NTP.
  At least 5 years experience in OpenVMS Storage Management: SAN, Storage 
Arrays (EMC storage knowledge is preferred), RAID configurations, Volume 
Shadowing, etc.
  Experience in disaster recovery related activities including 
preparation, tests, and execution.
  UNIX/Linux knowledge
  Console Works system management
LDAP configuration for remote PC user file access (Pathworks)
  At least 5 years experience in HP Proliant ML/ DL / BL Server 
administration
  At least 5 years experience in HP Proliant ML/ DL / BL software 
upgrades
  At least 5 years experience in Storage management
Computer literate, excellent written and oral communication skills, 
superior troubleshooting skills, attentive to detail, ability to handle 
multiple priorities, highly self-motivated, able to work independently 
as well as part of a team, able to be on-call off hours and project 
management skills
