That is a better analogy than most people think because I am a sci-fi guy and this new medium is taking sci-fi to new heights. Think about the comparison between "books and film". Some people prefer books and that's OK but you will not find any book that tells the story of "Blade Runner".

Back to electronic entertainment for a moment, the two largest games of 2015 (so far) are "Batman: Arkham Knight" and "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" which both happen to be published by Warner Bros. Both these games combined have (so far) grossed over one billion dollars. If this happened in the world of movies you would hear about it on every news channel. But movies are marketed differently.

Believe it or not, game platforms are always the first to pick up new technology. For example, inexpensive ubiquitous LCD displays were spin-offs of what Sony created for the lid of their original Play Station in (1994).

"3D televisions" are still primarily used by gamers since 3D never really caught fire (yet) in the non-gamer marketplace. But I said all that to say this, cloud computing is being leveraged every day to support online gaming.
