Twenty years ago, when Netscape was young, we had the concept of "web-safe colors" -- the 230-odd eight-bit colors that were the same on Mac and Windows.  That concept is now totally obsolete, because there are no more eight-bit-color displays.  This is one of very few situations in history where the world owes a debt of gratitude to teen-age boys.
