And that's why I offered to host it (virtually) in an existing datacenter, where
I have multiple Gigabit and 10 Gigabit links to the rest of the Internet, including peering with over 100 other providers.

The problem in the US has always been in "the last mile". Dedicated circuits are expensive and insufficiently reliable, and "consumer-grade" access via cable / FiOS don't offer the type of service you want if you're trying to host something, as opposed to simply accessing services hosted elsewhere. And they tend to be even less reliable than the dedicated circuits.
