I would imagine there would be a treasure trove of opportunity for VSI or others who would provide a one stop shop for migrating totally out of date systems out there upwards to a supported base config or at least provide a detailed analysis to how the business could move their platform forward
I've come across a number of places where they don't have vms people in their midst and probably never will unless VMS becomes mainstream again. It's often some unix/windows admin or even programmer who has inherited this box that sits in the corner who has drawn the short straw. Their ability to move the platform forward is probably near zero and consequently the vms system goes unloved until such a point where a modernisation program comes along with some funding and throws money towards having that old vms system finally pushed out the door - stopping things getting to this point might pay dividends longer term - it certainly has to be better than letting a vms system vanish altogether
If VSI or others rocked up at their front door and told them 'I can move you forward or at least provide an analysis of what you need to do to move forward for a set free, I think a number of these places might take up that opportunity - breaking that inertia might just be what's needed to move some businesses forward
The trick is how to identify them and how not to get stopped by some anti-sales tactic at the front door!
