The key point here is that the VMS-specific code in (UN)ZIP is part of 
the official distribution.

(UN)ZIP has platform-specific stuff for a huge variety of platforms.  
The main thing is not to fork off, but to keep the changes for a 
particular platform, VMS say, in the main tree.
