I certainly came across one at my first job in 1977.  Apparently from the
same school as me! :-(  We had just had some training on some kind of IBM
banking gear and this guy could not understand the bit mask operations that
it used for something.  My explanations (my fault?) did not enlighten him.
He eventually decided to consider them a black box and complained to me for
not explaining it as such in the first place.
