PostgreSQL and SQLite would be typical here.
If the database won't start, the behavior is exactly the same as the
present solution with problems accessing UAF; a backdoor startup from
the console or the management processor. While databases can be
complex products and sometimes won't start, various present-day OpenVMS
implementation involving getting access to a remote SYSUAF file
accessed from a host booting via a satellite bootstrap and
network-based cluster communications operating over IP networking to
host-based served storage presenting access to a fibre channel storage
controller that is itself operating via a FC over IP link and
presenting virtualized storage on a mixed pool of traditional hard
disks and SSDs and inboard flash storage sometimes doesn't work, after
all.
