When a normal OS  interrogates EFI to find the config of the system,
does EFI list the partitions on each drive, or just the hardware disks
leaving the job of making it of partitions to the nascent OS instance ?

Say you have 2 bootable partitions on a single hardware drive. User
chooses to boot from partition 2. How does the booting OS instance know
it should be reading its own files from partition 2 ?

Does VMS get told it is on partition 2 of disk X, VMS disregards
partition number and just accesses disk X ?
