In late Sept, there should be some leaf colors up north.  Drive over to Vermont or up to the lakes region.  And there is always Boston.  There is bus service from Nashua to Boston if she doesn't want to drive.  Or drive to a T-stop at the end of some line (although the parking is often tough to find).  I like to drive to Alewife in Cambridge and take the Red Line into Boston.  Plenty of stuff to do there.  There is also commuter rail that comes up as close as Lowell MA.
