Which is not the most maintainable user interface for programming and 
for run-time, particularly as feature knobs are added.  Everybody here 
is remembering to add that necessary lib$initialize into your existing 
and new applications and probably also a decc$feature_show_all() call

some random setting doesn't destabilize your application due to the 
behavior of some C RTL calls either in your code or in some lower-level 
constituent shareable image in a layered product that have been altered 
secondary some logical name that somehow wandered into your execution 
context, right?
