Ah, okay. I thought the goal was to boot and run and test with
Cassandra, not to port some Java code to over the Windows execution
environment. My bad.

While I might guess — some sort of a startup environment — no, I don't
have particular experience with Windows services. Sorry. Beyond
maybe a day of aggregate incidental usage each year, I don't use
Microsoft Windows, and really haven't used Windows since ~2006, and I
don't try to stay current on Windows terms and environments. Really
rusty on Windows, in other words. From back in ancient times,
Microsoft Windows XP wasn't particularly good at uninstalling software,
so booting and using a package as a VM guest was often preferable to an
installation. Hopefully that's improved with more recent versions of
Windows.

As for your question and based on a quick pass through DuckDuckGo
(DDG), have a look at
<http://stackoverflow.com/questions/68113/how-to-create-a-windows-service-from-java-app>
and — based on that StackOverflow question — I'd then guess that
Cassandra is probably using
<http://commons.apache.org/proper/commons-daemon/procrun.html> as the
wrapper. Ayup. If not confirmed, it sure looks like Cassandra uses
procrun: another DDG search finds
<https://github.com/apache/cassandra>. So for researching Cassandra,
either load the pre-built kit which'll get the Java code going for you
on Windows, or load the VM and use that.
