Because the original poster posted as one very long line.
And what I was responding to was the fact that he mentioned converting
FILES.

TFF does not act on files. It acts to convert data being received/sent
on serial ports. Hence the name "TERMINAL Fallback Facility".

The terminal must have a permanent attribute (disconnectable device as I
recall)  which allows one to insert the TFF driver as a man in the
middle which converts data flowing through the terminal device.


So data stored in X on a file, could be displayed as Y on a terminal if
that terminal has TFF enabled since data sent to it would be converted.
But the data remains in X in the file.

If you want to change the file to Y, you need to use iconv or a user
written program that uses callable iconv to change the stored data.
