Among those that have Oracle licenses, interest in anything other than
Oracle will probably be pretty low. Among others, interest is unclear,
and largely up to individual sites and to VSI, if VSI decides to
integrate and to start to make use of a database.

A precompiler would be nice, but it's going to be a fair amount of
parsing work to get it to the level of the Rdb precompiler parser, and
to get it integrated into the language more completely than what Rdb
does (or did — the precompiler may well have been updated since my last
use), that's probably going to involve a integrating a language-parsing
library such as LLVM, and that's not going to be an option with VMS for
a few years.

More than the precompilers, it's the ad hoc query tools that I miss —
InstantSQL is about the only option on OpenVMS, and that disappeared an
aeon or two ago AFAIK. Those tools could well generate the necessary
language-specific code, too. But that's only if you're itching to do
some SQL work somewhat above the level of a language processor /
precompiler. On OS X, the equivalent available tools include Sequel
Pro <http://www.sequelpro.com> and PSequel <http://www.psequel.com>
