Back in '06, I tried to get the (then) new BOINC code to
work on VMS, without much success. The C RTL lacked (and, I
believe still lacks) support for the UNIX shared memory
functions and UNIX sockets. On top of that, on Alpha, the
C++ standard library IOStreams was built with support for
only G_FLOAT, making it useless for software which demands
IEEE FP.
There has been some talk since then about dealing with
some of these deficiencies. I stopped caring a while ago, so
perhaps there's more than talk by now. But I wouldn't bet on
it.
Spade: Ten thousand? We were talking about a lot more money
than this.
Gutman: Yes, sir, we were, but this is genuine coin of the
realm. With a dollar of this, you can buy ten dollars of
talk.
