A few years back, the CRTC had made bad decisions for wholesale internet
(the UBB decisions). Some trouble maker (moi!) filed a formal "Petition
to Governor in Council" requesting the government overturn the CRTC
decisions.
The minister of industry did not wait for the Petition process to move
along, the next day, it announced on twitter he would request the CRTC
overturn the decisions. The CRTC then announced a new round of
consultations on the isssue. (so the Minister never issued the formal
response to my Petition via a Order in Council which is the mechanism
the government can influence the normally independant CRTC body
(Canada's equivalent to FCC).
The value of Twitter depends on whom you follow.
