Lots of small files, odd names and some squirreled away under [sys0...].  So I took the lazy route and did backup/Image to a save set on a different drive.      About 5-10%  percent parity errors overall.  Looking back, I'm surprised/impressed that it mounted.  

Every time it hit a bad block, it took over a minute for each retry.  It took over a day, but he was very happy to get what he did.   I've filed this one under "no good deed goes unpunished..."
