Then you should have used backup/physical to copy the bad disk to a save
set on the good disk. You get a log of every bad block on the original
disk.

When you get a dying disk, you want to copy from it ASAP with as few
operations as possible. Do the backup/physical and then restore that to
a newer disk and then play with it to restore files from it.

(this is where LD driver really comes in handy).

Without LD driver, backup/physical is useless BTW.
