   whith alll the poorly written C code in the world, I have to wonder
   if at least one of these attacks hasn't been via a carefully written
   data set on a credit card's magnetic stripe.

   It would be OK for the transaction to fail, the "user" could then
   switch to another card and not be very much suspect.
