I can understand if this is too much trouble, but perl is really built for this kind of thing.

But installing it and learning it may be more trouble than its worth if this is just a one
time thing.

Regardless, your question would make a great question for stackoverflow. It's too
bad that VMS and DCL sees to little traffic there.
