A real world example +/-:

Simultaneous uploads Linux > VMS and same same Linux machine to a
simmilar one, all with sftp. 1GB ethernet. Similar FC disks.

HP G7 to GS1280

Uploading larissa.gz to /sys$sysroot/sysmgr/larissa.gz
larissa.gz 42% 4207MB 8.0MB/s
12:09 ETA

HP G7 to G7

Uploading larissa.gz to /vm_backup/larissa.gz
larissa.gz 40% 4017MB 34.3MB/s
02:54 ETA

FWIW: larissa.gz is a compressed copy of a snapshot of Windows server
instance running as a VM under RHEL.

I'm a VMS supporter and administrator, but one has to be clear about
strengths and weaknesses to make any kind of realistic case, which I
can, pro VMS.
