Do you somehow think the build process and environment for Linux or BSD
is any less complex? The only real difference is that the Linux and BSD
environment and process are publicly available knowledge. VMS has always
been a secret. There is no site that tells you what you need or how to
build it from scratch. And then you have the requirement for proprietary
compilers and utilities. It doesn't mean that VMS is somehow intrinsicly
more complicated or difficult. It is only because of the obscurity of
the process.
