Once again we get the confusion between "installed base" and "paying new customers". Once again a company makes a horribly wrong decision. Rather than restructuring license and support agreements they chase WEEENDOZE and Linux.

There are hundres, perhaps many thousands, of credit union locations which rely on the product and are on VMS. There are literally thousands of pharmacy locations in the same boat. I don't know if the hotel/timeshare/travel chain has machines at each location or feeds them back to the central, but, if they have machines at each location (which makes more business sense than not being able to check people in or sell more rooms because your network is down) then it is also many thousands of locations relying on said product.

Chasing new frontiers is always better for upper management because redesigning revenue streams means management has to admit to doing something wrong.
